Volunteer opportunity description

Serve DC knows firsthand that volunteer engagement and response is critical in the event of an emergency, and its preparedness programs ensure residents have the skills and resources necessary to serve their communities in times of crisis. Training people how to respond to and prepare for emergencies is part of our core mission.

Serve DC will be offers FREE training in First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) equipment to people living and working in the District of Columbia.

CPR is a lifesaving technique useful in many emergencies, including heart attack or near drowning, in which someone's breathing or heartbeat has stopped. CPR is a combination of chest compressions and rescue breathing (mouth-to-mouth resuscitation).
  • AED Automated External Defibrillator) is a portable lightweight device that checks the heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm.  AEDs are used to treat sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
